Downward Mobility observes our unshakable desire to possess items of value in an increasingly disabling economic environment.

The images describe a growing apathy manifesting in our “this is us, lol” social media exchanges and memes shares, while the overtly contrived layouts of the images intends to mimic the ways we curate toward an online audience.

Each work caricatures the artist’s peers — a cohort who are now set to be the first generation in a long time that will fail to out-perform their parents’ generation, materially.

Born in Taranaki, New Zealand on an idyllic farmlet, Blake currently spends time nestled somewhere in-between the million dollar villas and the halfway houses of Grey Lynn, Auckland.

Blake is a visual artist, blurring the lines between photography, painting, sculptural work and documentary filmmaking.

Blake has spent parts of the last 5 years working between Indonesia and New Zealand establishing a social and environmental impact business with family and producing artwork.
